The Tutor Duo offers a full range of tutoring & academic preparation services for children from Kindergarten to College.
We individualize lessons for each student. Beginning by building on their strengths, we help them to overcome their weaknesses.
With more than 50 years teaching experience between us, we agree that watching our students succeed and become engaged learners our greatest reward.
We have worked with students with IEPs, accelerated students looking for enrichment, and everyone in between.
DANA HURWITZ
Tutoring Kindergarten through 8th Grade
A Pennsylvania-certified teacher with my BA from Muhlenberg College and my M.Ed. from Arcadia University, I have been a classroom teacher, tutor, religious school teacher, principal, and homeschool teacher.
The biggest reward for me is connecting with a student one-on-one. Teaching in small groups allows me to get to know each student, helping me to inspire a love for learning in each one.
NATHAN HURWITZ

As a creative, engaged tutor for grades 7-12 in math, science, and English, I not only help my students shine in the classroom, but I also write inspiring blog posts to boost students’ excitement, confidence, and self-esteem. I excel in explaining complex concepts in clear, easy-to-understand ways, and guide students, parents, and teachers to the best educational resources. My goal is to empower students to believe in their educational abilities and their potential.
As a supportive and socially conscious test prep tutor, I help my students achieve or surpass their goals on college or graduate school entrance exams or AP Exams. Additionally, I provide helpful blog posts on creating effective study plans and optimizing tools and time for exam preparation. I guide students through exam preparation, using the best resources, tools, and practice exams. My goal is to help students develop the skills and confidence to achieve their best test scores.
My BFA is from NYU, my MA from Northwestern, and my Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. I am a tenured university professor, having been on the faculty of NYU, the University of Pittsburgh, Syracuse University, and Rider University.
Tutoring high school and SAT/ACT students gives me a great sense of satisfaction – I get to help young adults realize their educational potential.
